1 killed, 1 wounded during confrontation
One man was killed and another wounded in an early morning shooting yesterday outside a home in this small town in western York County.
Jared Nichols, the owner of the mobile home on Route 160, was questioned by detectives but no charges were immediately filed, police said.
Nichols, 28, had gotten into a fight with his girlfriend, who left the property and returned with two men and a second woman, said Stephen H. McCausland, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety.
The three men got into a confrontation in the front yard at around 2 a.m., McCausland said, and a handgun that Nichols was holding went off during the fight, hitting the two other men.
Todd Leblanc, 23, of Porter, was dead at the scene; Peter Sampietro, 25, of Hiram, was being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland for a gunshot wound.
Nichols called police to report the shooting, and detectives were at the home to gather evidence and conduct interviews, McCausland said.
The Attorney General’s Office has been consulted and a decision on what charges, if any, will be filed will be deferred pending investigation.
